Adaptive radiation

Born in Kanagawa in 1991, Iyanaga earned a master’s degree in oil painting from Kyoto City University of Arts. Her practice explores the unique textures found in digital painting. In her recent work she has turned her attention to the material presence of electronic circuit boards and monitors, incorporating them into collage-like compositions.

Received an MFA in ceramics from the Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts, in 2022. Focusing on the fragile nature of ceramics as breakable objects, Uno’s practice proposes new perspectives on the existence of objects, the ways we engage with them, and how they are preserved.

Born in Osaka in 1986. Kunimasa completed an MFA in textile arts at Kyoto City University of Arts. Using industrial materials such as cable ties, he applies familiar craft and handwork techniques — including dyeing and knitting — to create sculptural works and site-specific installations.

Born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1997. Through works that engage the elemental materials and acts inherent to ceramics — clay, fire and eating — Sakamoto explores the intimate connections between matter, the body and daily life.

Painter based in Kyoto, working across a wide range of contexts from traditional Japanese formats to contemporary architectural spaces. Shinagawa also explores new ways of practising as an artist through open studios and artist books.

Founded in 2011 in Eigenji, Higashiomi, Shiga Prefecture, the studio explores expressions that serve as boundaries connecting different fields through the traditional craft of karakami, decorative hand-printed paper.

Born in 1982 in Hyogo. Masumoto received an MFA in ceramics from Kyoto City University of Arts and is currently based in Shigaraki, Shiga. Her practice explores vessels without function, made solely for display.

Born in 1983 in Tokyo and currently based in London. Using the concepts of order and illusion as key themes, Miyazaki explores social systems through discarded and obsolete objects; recent sculptures combine automotive scrap with paper.

Working to the theme ‘Error: how acts of failure generate new values’, Miyata creates works using a distinctive sewing-machine technique that resonates with the forms and evolution of living organisms.

A bamboo artist born in Nagano in 1980 and currently based in Beppu, Oita. Yokoyama has developed sculptural works characterised by intricate lines woven from split bamboo and architectural structures.
