ALL OUR BLOOD is a powerful reflection on memory, empathy and our shared human
experience. At the centre of the work is a film of a single drop of the artist’s own blood striking the surface of water, forming a deep red cloud that evokes the image of an atomic explosion. Through this simple yet profoundly symbolic gesture, the work invites viewers to reflect on the enduring human consequences of conflict and on the responsibility we all share in remembering the past. Peter Gabriel created 21mins of music to accompany the film.
“Every fruit has its juice. We have blood – and that blood never stops flowing.
And in that blood lies our past, our present and the doorway to our future.”
Peter Gabriel
“This installation is made of my blood. Blood is vital to us all. What is done to one, in the end is done to us all. We are all infinitely interconnected.”
Harry Pearce
Originally as a still photograph created by Harry Pearce to mark the seventieth anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 2016. It was exhibited at the University of Maryland Art Gallery’s ‘Questioning the Bomb’ exhibition.
Presented within the context of the Kyōto YouMe Triennale, the exhibition reinforces the Triennale’s commitment to exploring how art can generate dialogue, preserve collective memory and create meaningful connections across cultures.
